In 1923 a fur trapper wrote a letter to Union Cutlery Co, which soon after changed its name to Ka-Bar, stating he killed a wounded bear with one of their knives after his rifle jammed. The ink was smudged, so you could only make out the letters ka-bar. By World War II, the same knife was adopted as the go-to blade for the American Military, where it's killed countless MREs to date.
